About Mexican Residency
For most applicants, obtaining Mexican residency involves two steps.
Step 1: You apply for a residency visa through a Mexican consulate outside Mexico. This involves determining your eligibility, preparing your application and supporting documents, making your consular appointment and attending the interview.
Step 2: After receiving your residency visa and entering Mexico, you complete the process at a local office of the Mexican Immigration authority (INM) and receive your Mexican residency card.

Temporary Residency
Financial solvency requirement is currently approximately $4,400/month income or the equivalent savings. The Temporary Residence card is valid for one year and must be renewed in Mexico through a period of four years. With a valid card, there is no limit on length of stay or number of entries/exits. It allows for a foreign registered vehicle, bank account, driver’s license, CURP, and access to national healthcare.
Permanent Residency
Financial solvency requirement is currently approximately $7,400/month income or savings/investment. It can be applied for initially or after completing four consecutive years of Temporary Residency. Renewals are not required and there are no limitations on length of stay, entries or exits. It allows for the right to work without a special permit. Vehicles must be Mexican registered. It allows for access to senior discounts and possible tax exemptions.

No. Generally, Step 1 is completed at a Mexican consulate outside Mexico. Once your residency visa has been issued, you must travel to Mexico within a certain period of time to complete Step 2 at a local INM office.

Step 2 — Mexican Attorney Assistance
Once Step 1 has been successfully completed and you receive your residency visa, you must enter Mexico to complete the second stage of the process. This stage is called “Canje” and means exchanging your visa for a residency card, whether Temporary or Permanent. If you have selected rēlo-connect’s Concierge Level service, we will connect you with one of our network attorneys located in the city or state that you indicated in order to begin planning for Step 2.
Step 2 involves completing the residency process with Mexico’s Immigration authority and it is important to remember that residency is a legal process. Unlike the facilitators that some people hire, a licensed attorney can safely guide you and provide legal assistance where required.

Government fees and other expenses that are not specifically included in your selected rēlo-connect service are additional.
No. The Mexican government and the appropriate Mexican consulate make the final decision on residency applications and those are outside of rēlo-connect’s control. rēlo-connect guarantees the delivery of the personalized guidance and assistance included in the service that you purchase, but we cannot guarantee government approval of your residency application.
A consulate or Mexican Immigration authority may deny or otherwise affect an application for reasons outside of rēlo-connect’s control. Our service does not guarantee a particular government outcome. However, if this occurs, we will be happy to discuss your circumstances and any available next steps with you. Rejection or denial by the Mexican government does not necessarily mean that you should not try again to apply.
No. Government fees, consular fees, document fees, translations, travel expenses and other third-party expenses are separate unless specifically stated otherwise.
